In the 1990s, Midsummer Madness was the name for a series of events run by Jim Kinnell, which he ran along with his Bright Sparks weekends and Winter Wilderness weekend gatherings.
Midsummer Madness would feature a mountain ascent coupled with a silly activity such as a Mad Hatter's Tea-party or a Teddy Bear's Picnic, and would often involve being on the summit to watch the sunrise on midsummer's day. Midsummer Madness visited Ben Nevis, Snowdon, and Skiddaw, among other hills.
After Jim Kinnell left Mensa, the event was reprised by Andy Farrell in 2000 with an event on Snaefell on the Isle of Man.
