The 2000 Annual Gathering of American Mensa, Philly Phrolic, was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Adam's Mark Hotel. It lasted from July 5th through July 9th. Lesley & Steve Slepner were the AG chairmen. The attendance was 1457.

The hotel was at the edge of the city limits, fairly distant from the downtown area with the tourist attractions such as the Mint and the Liberty Bell. The Mensa block of rooms in the hotel was fully booked, so late registrants ended up staying in another adjacent hotel which handled the overflows.

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, July 9, 2000, Alabama Mensan David Mann suffered a massive heart attack while attending the gathering. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but he could not be revived.
