Mommy letter

A Mommy letter (or Mummy letter for European gatherings) is a letter sent (either on paper or electronically) shortly before a gathering (such as an Annual Gathering) giving information such as how to get to the gathering from the airport or train station, what unusual local laws might affect attendees' activities, and anything else that it is said that your mother would tell you if she were familiar with the details of the gathering and its host city.

The name "mommy letter" came under some attack in online discussions in 2011 as allegedly insensitive for reasons ranging from treating members like helpless children to being sexist about the roles of mommies (and daddies), as well as excluding mommy-less families such as gay couples or single fathers. And which of Heather's two mommies wrote the letter? Some have advocated changing the name for these reasons, either to some dull bureaucratic thing like "Gathering information letter" or to some new clever name that manages somehow not to offend anybody.
