Light up the North, the American Mensa / Mensa Canada joint Annual Gathering, was held in St. Paul, Minnesota from July 2nd through July 6th, at the Radisson Hotel Riverfront. Judy Hogan was the chairman. The attendance was 1385.

Some of the conflicts between then-webmaster (of Minnesota Mensa, the host group) Al Heigl and his group, which ultimately resulted in his being brought into a hearing and expelled from Mensa, stemmed from disagreements about the website for this AG, which others in the group had set up without consulting Heigl, and made decisions about it that he disapproved of such as using a .com domain for its address, implying a commercial entity.

Registration and hotel fees

Registration for the 2003 AG was $50 by 7/31/2002, $60 by 12/31/2002, $70 by 3/31/2003, $80 by 6/27/2003, $85 after. Single days were $30 (Thursday through Saturday) or $15 for Wednesday or Sunday. Young Mensans were free up to age 5, half price for ages 6-12. There was a 3-meal dining plan for $59. The hotel room rate was $84.
