Margot Seitelman was the first Executive Director of American Mensa, and was instrumental in the organization of American Mensa in its early days. Hired in 1961 through an ad in the New York Times to get an office established for the purpose of grading tests and accepting new members for the fledgling American chapter of the British-based Mensa organization, Seitleman ran the office until her death in 1989 at the age of 61. The "Margot Award", issued on occasion by American Mensa for outstanding service, was named after her, and she was its first recipient.
