Blanking

The date and location of IMAG 2008 have twice been blanked by User:Mauguthrie. Perhaps she would write her reasons here then editors can take note of her opinion. Andyfarrell 09:06, 27 November 2007 (PST)

The dates and location of IMAG 2008 have been deleted three times now by Maureen Guthrie, chairman of the Irish Mensa Committee, and twice reinstated by Andy Farrell, an East Midlands member. Mensa is a private club. Mensa events are *not* open to the public and should not be advertised or implied as such on a public site by any member. Actual dates and places are not for public distribution. Maureen Guthrie 13:45, 28 November 2007
But this site sets out to "document the culture, folklore, history, politics, and organizational structure of the high-IQ society at all its levels" and the contributions on here have been good-faith edits in keeping with that goal. Your edits have been in conflict with that. I suggest you should seek to have the policy altered rather than remove material which fits the policies. Andyfarrell 11:20, 28 November 2007 (PST)
Moreover, I cannot find anyone who shares your "private and secret club" viewpoint. All seem to agree that dates and places are for public distribution as these would be useful to members. What are you fearful of? That members of the public are going to walk in? Well most groups would welcome interest in Mensa with open arms, and try to recruit them, but in any case simply naming the city doesn't tell a member of the public enough to find us. I'm going to reinstate the deleted information until such time as a consensus appears for doing it your way. Andyfarrell 02:13, 29 November 2007 (PST)
Maybe the culture is very different in Ireland and Irish Mensa, but the occurrence and location of the American Mensa AG is widely publicized with the assistance of the National Office, and there are usually several newspaper features before, during, and after it. DanTheWebmaster 17:10, 29 November 2007 (PST)
And, after looking at the text that's being warred about, which gives only the name of the city and not even the specific venue address, I have no idea why anybody considers this to be private information. It's no more sensitive than saying that the American AG will be in Denver next year. Many AGs and RGs even have public Web sites that probably get indexed by Google, and give much more detailed information than this. DanTheWebmaster 17:15, 29 November 2007 (PST)
I am not aware that the culture is significantly different in Ireland or in British Mensa - we too have a press officer who lines up media interviews at the AG and various RGs. Andyfarrell 08:54, 30 November 2007 (PST)
