2006 World Gathering
The 2006 World Gathering is to be held at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World, near Orlando, Florida, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Mensa. The Annual Gathering of American Mensa is combined into this gathering along with a meeting of the International Board of Directors, and it is expected to attract Mensans from around the world. Elissa Rudolph is the chairman of the World Gathering 2006 committee, which is independent of any local group.
As the third straight U.S. AG held in what is regarded as a "destination city", this gathering is provoking some discussion and debate about the desirability of such locations versus less attractive (but less expensive) ones. There are also concerns about the possibility of skimpy hospitality food, a la Las Vegas, due to strict rules of Disney properties, but the official Web site promises "a full choice of drinks and plenty of snacks of all types."
