The 1978 Annual Gathering of American Mensa, Potpourri, was held in Cleveland, Ohio at the Bond Court Hotel. It lasted from June 22 through June 25. There were 850 attendees. Sandry Murphy and June Randolph were the AG chairmen.
This AG was famous for introducing what became known as the "Cleveland Clap", where applause after each winner is announced at the awards banquet is limited to a single synchronized hand clap to save time that might otherwise be wasted on standing ovations.
