The 1986 Annual Gathering of American Mensa, Celebration 86, was held in New York, New York at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Constance Atman, Helen Mosley, Rosemary Dowling, and Marlene Zimmerman were the AG chairmen. Attendance was about 1800, which made it the highest-attended AG so far.
Hospitality gained the reputation of having the least food at any AG in memory, being dubbed the "Karen Carpenter Memorial AG" by some attendees. Just as the 1990 Orange County AG set the standard for copious cuisine, this one is the point of comparison for AGs of meager eating.
