East Midlands is a region of [[British Mensa]] comprising the counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire, and parts of Herfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Due to its linear shape it claims to be the region made up from all the leftover bits no-one else wanted. Until recently it included areas within the M25 motorway in North London.

The [[regional newsletter]] takes its name from a contraction of "'''E'''ast '''M'''idlands '''press'''" and is edited in turn by [[Rosie Jefferson]] and [[Nick Stimpson]]. Empress traditionally employs a rota of three editors each doing a stint of a few months, in an attempt to keep the editors fresh, keep a fresh style to the newsletter, and provide backup in case a volunteer editor drops out.
