HalloweeM

HalloweeM (often abbreviated "'Weem") is the largest Regional Gathering of American Mensa, held every year in Chicago around the time of Halloween, from which it derives its name. It is well-renowned for its extensive hospitality food and very active games room. The reason generally given behind Chicago not bidding for an Annual Gathering in over 30 years (after the 1974 AG) is that they would be compelled to skip "'Weem" in the year in which they hosted an AG, and given the choice between the two they would rather have their RG than the AG. An AG is bigger (though, in the case of 'Weem, not by that big of a margin), but due to national rules about disposition of surplus funds, it does not yield as big a profit to the hosting group even when it is successful.
